What social media should I use for marketing my music therapy business?

So, as a music therapist, what kind of social media should I be using?

This is an awesome question with somewhat of a simple answer.

You need to ask yourself three questions —

1. Where is my target audience hanging out online?
Are they on Facebook? Are they tweeting? Do they love Instagram? Are they pinning over at Pinterest? Social media can be an amazing and powerful place to make connections, provide value, and interact with your audience.

2. Where am I hanging out online?
Perhaps you have no idea how to use Twitter and don’t know what hashtags are. Maybe you have no interest in signing up for Pinterest. And that is OK. You need to go where YOU are comfortable and where you are already hanging out.

3. What are your short-term goals for your business or private practice?
If you are looking to increase traffic to your website, using Facebook and Pinterest would be great places to start.

If you are looking to grow your groups and classes, Facebook is a great way to go (not just your business page, but using Facebook groups, as well).

If you are looking to grow your music therapy contract caseload, LinkedIn and Facebook would be great places to start.

Not all social media platforms are created equally, and they should be treated differently. Be mindful of your goals as you plan where to spend your time.

So, tell me – which social media network are you going to try next? I would love to hear below in the comments section. 🙂
