5 Features That Make Up a Great Music Therapy Website

A website is essential for your music therapy business. You want to make a distinct impression on your website visitors and potential clients.

I’ve designed dozens of music therapy websites for business owners and organizations, and I pulled together 5 features that you can implement into your music therapy website.

1. An engaging hero image or a slider

Using great imagery, visuals, and copy pulls in your website visitor. Utilizing a hero image or a slider with multiple images will pull in your reader and entice them to scroll down and read more. In Music To Grow On’s website design, I incorporated a beautiful hero image that shows a connection between therapist and client.

Bonus tip: Always gain permission to use photos of your clients. You can also include a simple “Photos used with permission” note in the footer of your website.

2. User-friendly navigation

The navigational menu on your website often includes your main highlights (your services, your offerings, etc.) for your business. Make sure your menu is not too busy or have too many levels, as this becomes hard to navigate for your users.

  • Your website homepage is a great place to highlight and direct your audience to your main pages.

When I designed Music Blooms Music Therapy, LLC’s homepage, I had 3 goals in mind. I wanted the audience to learn about music therapy, seek out the services Music Blooms provides, and meet the team of Music Blooms’ music therapists.

Bonus tip: Make sure to check how your menu and navigation looks great in mobile-view, too. By 2021, there will be 50+ million people using their mobile devices to view websites.

3. Calls-to-action (CTAs)

Make sure each of your pages have a call-to-action (CTA) to show your audience exactly what to do next. For example, if you have an “About Music Therapy” page or something similar, you will want your audience to be funneled (aka shown the way) to your Music Therapy Services. Tell your audience exactly what to do.

  • EXAMPLES INCLUDE:
    • Click here to view our offerings/services
    • Contact us to set up your free consultation
    • Learn more about our music therapy services

Make sure the link to your CTA is big and bold (buttons work well!).

Bonus tip: When someone visits your services page, you want a simple and quick call-to-action to get the process started and get them in your door (“Contact us to get started”).

4. Simple, straightforward website copy

Remember when I shared this video on why your about page isn’t about you?

Think of that same concept about your website as a whole. Your website’s main goal is to solve a problem or issue for your dream music therapy clients and showing them that your business is the one to do it.

Keep your website copy simple. No jargon. Throw the standard definition of music therapy out the window. Focus on the benefits of music therapy that you will bring to your dream clients.

Bonus tip: Remember, you have a short amount of time to engage your audience online. Be brief and to the point.

5. Cohesive and beautiful branding

I recently shared some great design resources that I use frequently, and I truly hope these are helpful.

A truly great music therapy website is going to have a cohesive look. That means using the complementary fonts throughout, a pleasing color palette, and engaging visuals (photos, videos, hero images, sliders) throughout.

Bonus tip: Do not underestimate the power of white space. A cluttered, dense website is going to make your audience frustrated and leave.

So, these are five features that make up a great website that engages your audience and brings your dream clients in your clinic door.
